By Lloyd Howell & F.C.C. Albuquerque (Mestre Gato of Group Senzala)
The author has been a student of Karate
for nearly twenty years, originally starting out as a student of Sensei Eamonn
Dunlea.
He also trained with Mr Richard Barrett who was then the senior student of
Sensei Dunlea.
Sempai Barrett is now the head of the Jundokan GB, which teaches a form of
Okinawan Goju Ryu.
In 1986 Mr.
Howell started training with Sensei Harry Cook, and in November 1995 he gained
his third Dan with the Seijinkai Karate-do Association.
The Seijinkai is an association that promotes traditional Okinawan and Japanese
Karate-do.
Mr Howell began training with Master Gato in Capoeira
at the behest of his former Sensei and with the encouragement of Sensei Harry
Cook.
As a direct result of this Mr Howell has since travelled to Brazil twice to
further his studies of this fascinating art.
Mr Howell has written many articles on Karate and Capoeira.
A senior within the Seijinkai, Lloyd Howell runs a
dojo in Earith, Cambridgeshire.
He also teaches on courses and seminars all over the country.
A student of Mestre Gato since 1989, Lloyd Howell (Carousel) was graded to Professor level in Capoeira in July of 1998 by Mestre Gato.
Mr. Howell now teaches Capoeira to a growing number of people throughout the United Kingdom.
“Capoeira is a zero gravity martial art that is practised on
Earth
~ it is the martial art of the 21st Century…”
